Nomadland was named best picture at Sunday night’s sleepy and surreal 93rd Academy Awards, a stage show broadcast on television about films mostly distributed on the internet. (NYT)

Nomadland beat out the likes of Aaron Sorkin’s historical drama The Trial Of The Chicago Seven, and David Fincher’s story of old Hollywood, Mank, about the creation of Citizen Kane. (NPR)

China-born Zhao also became just the second woman to win best director, and the first woman of color. (AP)

Besides landing several critic groups’ top prizes, Nomadland was also named Best Picture at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, BAFTAs and PGA with Zhao also taking home the DGA prize. (Deadline)

Netflix brought home a total of seven total trophies—leading all studios—although the streamer failed to grab the prize in the best picture category and came up empty in the acting categories. (Variety)
