Biden Campaign Demands TV News Execs Stop Booking Giuliani

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign made an extraordinary request to executives of top news channels on Sunday, asking them to no longer book Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, on their programs. (The Daily Beast)

The campaign “demanded” that Giuliani be kept off the air because of what they called his misleading comments about the Biden family and Ukraine. (NYT)

Giuliani appeared on Fox News, CBS, and ABC Sunday standing by his Ukraine work, getting combative with anchors, and saying that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was “aware” of his actions. Giuliani dismissed the Biden camp letters as “the usual left wing censorship” in a statement to The Daily Beast. (Mediaite)

If the networks do book Giuliani in the future, the Biden campaign told the networks that “you need to give an equivalent amount of time to a surrogate for the Biden campaign. Saying simply that you will put a Democrat on, at a time when there are many declared candidates for the Democratic nomination for the presidency, is neither fair treatment nor equal treatment.” (THR)

The letter, signed by top Biden aides Anita Dunn and Kate Bedingfield, was sent to top executives at several major news outlets, as well as a handful of prominent anchors, according to a person familiar with the matter. (Variety)
