Activision Blizzard to Lay Off 8% of Workforce in Restructuring

By Christine Zosche

Activision Blizzard’s business isn’t immune to pressure from competition. The video game publishing giant on Tuesday said that it is laying off around 8 percent of its workforce, or more than 750 employees, as the business undergoes a restructuring. (THR)

CEO Bobby Kotick said that the cuts would come from support staff while the company consolidates its commercial operations and reorganizes its marketing initiatives. Activision will be instead investing more in live services, Battle.net, eSports, and advertising efforts. (Variety)

The restructuring will also boost the number of game developers by 20 percent during 2019. Shares gained 4 percent in after-hours trading following the news, which came as the company announced a mixed bag of quarterly and full-year results. (Deadline)
