533 Million Facebook Users’ Phone Numbers, Personal Data Leaked Online

A user in a low-level hacking forum on Saturday published the phone numbers and personal data of hundreds of millions of Facebook users for free online. (Business Insider)

The leak includes personal information on 533 million Facebook users, such as phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, birth dates, bios and in some cases email addresses, Business Insider reported. (Bloomberg)

Facebook told Business Insider that this data was scraped because of a vulnerability that it fixed in 2019. (The Verge)

Facebook has been grappling with data security issues for years. In 2018, the social media giant disabled a feature that allowed users to search for one another via phone number following revelations that the political firm Cambridge Analytica had accessed information on up to 87 million Facebook users without their knowledge or consent.
