W+K and ESPN Know You’re Going to Like the Way You Look in These Tuxes

When we woke up this morning, the first thing we thought was not “What has the guy from Men’s Wearhouse been up to?!”

But now we know thanks to ESPN and Wieden+Kennedy New York: he’s back in the tuxedo business and he’s ready to party, baby!

“Subtle” is probably the last word we’d use to describe that blazer, but then we are not Clemson fans (Go Cocks!). “Faux suede vest” is also not the first thing that comes to mind when we try to visualize the word “classy,” but something about George Zimmer’s cigar-smoke delivery really does it for us.

You probably got the fact that this contest is a collaboration between ESPN and Zimmer’s new venture Generation Tux, whose YouTube page includes such entries as this one reassuring viewers that they may indeed practice White People Dancing without damaging their rented tuxes. And you know it’s part of the second year of the “Who’s In?” college football campaign, which started in August with “The Message” though that spot no longer lives online. (Side note: why do clients take their ads down?)

The site is worth a look even if you don’t plan to enter the contest thanks to copy blocks like this one:

“Roll into your New Year’s Eve party in this classic Alabama houndstooth tux and you will surely dominate the conversation just like the Crimson Tide dominated the competition this season. And even though this expertly crafted jacket is made from the finest wool around, it’s symbolically made from the broken dreams of all its SEC rivals.

Also comes with pants.”

We’re still not sure how anyone who is not a member of a marching band could get away with wearing epaulets in public. That guy on the top right looks like he’s questioning his decision to enter the fashion industry.
