Booking.com and agency of record Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam started 2016 with a bang of sorts by asking viewers to turn their (futile) New Years Resolutions into travel plans for the “BEST 2016 EVER.”
The shop’s latest campaign is no less ambitious. Seems the client has a new service called Passion Search which suggests potential vacation spots based on…wait for it…a user’s own personal interests!
The (presumably) well-to-do family in the first spot wants to get a little closer to nature, but which we mean their inner warrior nature.
And here we were about to call that spot unrealistic.
Next, have you ever heard of the Society for Creative Anachronism? If not, then what might you expect them to be?
Finally, one man truly gets down and dirty with the hogs and their prized fungi.
The release doesn’t really explain the service, which launched today across most of Europe and Canada–so we had to try it ourselves. According to the destination finder, our incongruous interests in mountains, beer and urban pedestrian pursuits hint that our ideal vacation spot would be Brussels, Prague or Munich.
We can’t say we disagree! The campaign also reminds us, in its way, of Ogilvy Shanghai’s December work for travel company Agoda, which cast wealthy Chinese travelers as “land divers” who go far beneath the surface of the culture wherever they happen to land.
