Who Were the D-Bags at Last Night’s UJA Dinner?

By Matt Van Hoven

Last night was the annual Global Leadership Award dinner for United Jewish Appeal, a group whose mission is charity, charity, charity. The event, held at Chelsea Piers Lighthouse honored Media Link LLC‘s Michael Kassan and American Express CMO and non-jew (Irish Catholic) John Hayes. Hayes took the stage and said something like, “Wow, the UJA couldn’t even find a Jew in New York to give this award to?”

The event played host to a number of agencies since the award is meant for people whose initiatives in marketing made a difference throughout the year. Hayes led the way with Project Red, for example.

Well here’s the lameness: in the middle of dinner, the folks at the Euro RSCG table up and left. The worst part, they left Ann Marie Marcus of talent shop Marcus St. Jean, the agency’s creative recruiter, sitting there by herself.

But Euro wasn’t alone in departing early. Right after dinner but before the awards began, the Aegis crew deserted their table as well.

Look, these things can get boring at times, yes. But there were two gaping holes for Hayes and Kassan to stare at last night, and both were well labeled. And that sorta sucks, especially for lonely little Ann Marie Marcus.
