Wednesday Stir

-Park Pictures director and former Olympian Savanah Leaf helmed an animated “#WeMatterToo” PSA for rapper Common‘s organization, Imagine Justice, and ARC, focusing on the experiences of incarcerated people during the coronavirus pandemic.

The ad sets interviews with incarcerated people describing the lack of Covid-19 protections in jail to stark animation, concluding with a voiceover from Common. Part of the larger “#WeMatterToo” campaign, the effort calls on viewers to take action at wemattertoo.co.

“The last line you hear in the PSA is: ‘Every sentence shouldn’t be a death sentence.’ For me, the statement is a powerful summary of the entire point,” Leaf said in a statement. “Other people often speak on the behalf of incarcerated citizens, and their voices aren’t heard. At a time like this, where people remain in their homes, it’s important to reach them with the truthful experiences of others in need.”
