We Hear: WONGDOODY Bought Ground Zero

By Matt Van Hoven

Word on the street is WONGDOODY bought also-LA-based Ground Zero. We’ve been fielding tips about it for a few days and in that time have reached out to both agencies to no avail. Oh well.

So, we aren’t saying this is true, but our sources tell us WONGDOODY bought Ground Zero and the agencies’ LA offices are merging.

WD has offices in Seattle, Wash. and Culver City (LA), Calif., Ground Zero is only in LA (according to their Web site). They opened a New York office in 2000, but it’s no more.

Interestingly WD had a couple rounds of layoffs in the last six months &#151 indicating to us, at least, that this may be more of a merger than a buy out. Then again neither agency responded to multiple requests for comment so there’s no way to tell. Let us know if you hear anything.

Keep in mind: Curt Detweiler, a Ground Zero founder, bailed for McCann in September, 2009. Was the writing on the wall?
