Walmart Appoints Tony Rogers as U.S. CMO

By Erik Oster

With Stephen Quinn, who has served as Walmart’s chief marketing officer since 2007, retiring next month, the company has promoted Tony Rogers, who had served as chief marketing officer for Walmart China for the past year, to the role of U.S. CMO, Adweek reports. He will work closely with Michael Francis who recently joined as a marketing consultant (and who we incorrectly assumed would be stepping into the role following Quinn’s departure).

In the role, Rogers will be responsible for leading all marketing functions, including branding, consumer research and customer communications for the company, which spends around $1 billion domestically on measured media, according to Kantar Media.

Rogers originally joined Walmart in 2005 as senior director, brand strategy, before being promoted to vice president of advertising two years later, senior vice president of marketing in 2010 and CMO of Walmart China last year. Before joining Walmart he held senior marketing positions with Gateway and Pepsi, following a two-year stint as associate marketing manager for The Pillsbury Company.
