Wal-Mart, like many a big brand, uses third party advertising systems such as LinkShare to make placements on smaller media entities like blogs. It seems that kind of hands off approach is biting them in the ass today. The company’s banner ad is currently riding high on a a white supremacist’s blog. I refuse to link to it. And this is where advertising agencies can now make a big play. The new pitch to brands: let us handle all your buying chores or end up like Wal-Mart – paying for a terrified white supremacist to spread his message of filth. Ugh. Gross. Belch.
