UM named Anthony Plant as president of J3, its full-service media agency unit dedicated to Johnson & Johnson, UM’s largest client.

Plant succeeds Eileen Kiernan in the role, who was recently promoted to global CEO of UM.

“Anthony’s experience with diverse markets and cultures and his understanding of the nuances that come with working across a global network make him a natural fit for this role,” Kiernan said in a statement. “As a seasoned, strategic digital leader with a passion for great work, I am thrilled that Anthony will be leading J3 into its next chapter of success.”

Plant will be responsible for overseeing the J3 network, as well as J3 Studios, part of UM’s content-creation department UM Studios, while collaborating with individual J3 brand leaders.

“Global perspective is critical to delivering the highest form of innovation and collaboration, and I am excited by the challenge to lead J3 into the future,” Plant said in a statement. “Johnson & Johnson has been innovating in the healthcare space for over a century, making it the leader it is today, and I look forward to partnering with our clients and teams to translate J&J’s global ambitions into excellence, through better science, better art and better outcomes.”

Plant previously spent over five years as CEO of IPG Mediabrands Japan, leading clients including BMW, Hachette, Benesse, Coach and Skechers. Before joining IPG Mediabrands, he spent over 13 years with Saatchi & Saatchi, most recently as director of P&G brands for Greater China.
