Today on the Menu: Writer/Photog/Event Reporter Kelly Samardak

By Matt Van Hoven

The Morning Media Menu is an adventure in webbiness. For those who haven’t listened, we sometimes say interesting things. Like today, MediaPost’s Kelly Samardak (our guest), who notes that no one can prevent me from being socially awkward. She also notes that we, as media folk, need to educate the general public about the fact that some brands are paying writers to pimp their goods. It’s not always easy to tell, either. The brands we can trust are the ones that are the most transparent, bottom line.

What does journalism have that paid blogging doesn’t? Balance, as Samardak smartly notes, means talking about everything that comes across your plate regardless of whether or not it’s bad. This was in response to a blogger who doesn’t report on products she doesn’t like. Ethics! Give it a listen; I’m trying desperately not to eat my cell phone, but I think I need a new one.
