Thursday Ad Ripoff: CP+B vs. VML

By Bob Marshall

Shortly after we posted CP+B’s new “Lunch Decoy” video for Applebee’s yesterday, we received an anonymous tip that read:

“The exact concept for ‘CPB’s’ Lunch Decoy for Applebees was ripped off from VML Kansas City. This idea was presented to Quiznos nearly verbatim in 2010. Bad form by CPB and the employee who took it with him.”

Bad form indeed, if the alleged ripoff did in fact take place. But, of course, this kind of thing isn’t unheard of when people jump from agency to agency. Then, we received an email from a person with the handle “stealingideassuck” who attached the above image and told us, “Idea was presented to Quiznos. Concept (which wasn’t his) follows employee to CPB and is sold as original to Applebee’s. Bad form.”

What say you, dear readers? Any more details on this? More importantly, did the anonymous tipster actually go through the trouble of registering a brand new email address so they could send us this evidence? If so, why did they select a Yahoo address over a Gmail address?
