The Webbys Set to Salute Apps, AR in 2011

By Michael Musco

In preparations for the 15th annual Webby Awards next year, the folks behind the event have added a little twist. Along with the usual adulation bestowed upon interactive advertising, Websites, and online film and videos, the Webbys is debuting a new suite of categories saluting apps for handheld and tablet devices as well as interactive advertising prize for AR work.

New Academy members such as Yelp.com CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, UrbanDaddy CEO Lance Broumand, and Thrillist co-founder Ben Lerer have been tapped to judge the new honors, joining veteran members such as Wieden + Kennedy’s Iain Tait and AKQA’s Rei Inamoto.
