Ralph Steadman is the star of the second annual Saatchi & Saatchi Hero Show at the Clio Festival. Are you going? It’s to be held on May 14-17, 2008 at the Gansevoort South Hotel in South Beach.

Just in case you didn’t know, The Hero Show salutes advertising industry “creative pioneers, gurus, renegades, mould-breakers, mischief-makers, visionaries, genii and legends,” according to Bob Isherwood, Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Director. The 2007 show honored photographer Oliviero Toscani who is responsible for the iconic Benetton ads, as well as the banned anorexia themed ads that landed during Fashion Week last year.

Ralph Steadman is a British cartoonist and caricaturist who reworked classics such as has Alice in Wonderland and Animal Farm. Steadman had a long partnership with Hunter S. Thompson, drawing pictures for several of his articles and books. Love this guy. His resume also includes illustrating Will Self’s column in The Independent newspaper and Johnny Depp’s anthology of songs, “Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys,” where Steadman also sings lead on “Little Boy Billee”, and sings backing vocals on Eliza Carthy’s song “Rolling Sea.”

Steadman? Exemplar of living life to the fullest. I’m going to have to try that sometime.
