Update: Radioshack is looking at four shops for creative duties, but Arnold didn’t make it to the final round.
How ’bout that Hugh Jackman, eh? He sings, he dances, he stabs villains with super-cool claws that burst out of his hands — and he hosts one helluva party. Last night’s Academy Awards were better than anything we’ve seen in recent years — maybe because Jackman was a decent host and the whole thing was scant of awkward presenter changes and people climbing on the sets. But in case you couldn’t care less about the Oscars, here’s some other news we heard about (that you won’t hear anywhere else).
— Pat McGuire is a GCD at Draftfcb who we’re told is slated to run G2’s creative department (as ECD).
— There may be some layoffs at McGarry Bowen this Friday.
— This video of one of the top fellas at The Martin Agency confuses us. Why are people always making these things?
— A little bird told us Arnold will not be defending Radio Shack. Is the electronics store going the way of Circuit City?
— WPP Detroit got hit hard last weekend, specifically Y&R. The biggest name cut was (purportedly) Sara Pomish, VP Strategy Director on Mercury. Says our spy, “she led Mercury planning — i [sic] think they are switching to just a retail product model for Mercury.”
