The Egotist Brings Us Highlights from the ‘D’

By Kiran Aditham

It’s been a while since we checked in with the Egotist Network and now the gang’s Detroit operation checks in with a highlight reel of sorts from the Motor City’s ad scene. In case you missed anything from the past few weeks, here’s a rundown from a city that seems to be on some sort of road to redemption (or so they’ll have us think).

We did it. We survived. Another blistery winter has passed and the sun is shining. The Detroit Tigers are slowly making a comeback. The Red Wings fought hard for Stanley and The Detroit Egotist is gaining ground. It’s definitely a good time to live in Detroit.

It’s also a great time to be an agency. McCann Erickson’s Pure Michigan campaign is back in full swing to promote tourism. The auto industry is coming back as well and a couple of new agencies have arrived. Fallon Detroit has finally settled down in the Renaissance Center to be close to their Chevy counterparts.

Goodby, Silverstein & Partners have also been busy. After some debate on location and the move in date, Goodby has finally moved to downtown Detroit – occupying the space above the Filmore. They’ve also brought along all the amenities from their San Francisco office, including the vending machines that dispense beer for only a quarter.

Another agency that’s creating a stir is Doner, which kicked off a large brand campaign for Pennzoil earlier this month, then won the AutoZone account and were named Media AOR for Michigan housing company The Pulte Group – beating out Arnold, DDB Chicago and McCann to become the creative AOR with the help of their “Ecosystem” structure.

Lastly, Chrysler has been busy with their “Imported from Detroit” campaign, continuing their series with Detroit inspired figures including: Ndamukong Suh, John Varvatos and Dr. Dre. You can watch the first two spots on our site, with the one starring Dr. Dre premiering in the upcoming days.

This is just a sample of all the great work going on in Detroit. There are countless agencies here grinding night and day to put the ‘D’ back in advertising.

The Detroit Egotist brings you the latest from the ‘D’ here.
