TBWA\MAL Parts Ways With ECDs Danielle Flagg and Julia Leach

By Erik Oster

TBWA\Media Arts Lab has parted ways with executive creative directors Danielle Flagg and Julia Leach, an agency representative confirmed today.

Flagg arrived at the agency in April of 2014, following nine months as a freelance creative director/art director. Prior to that she spent seventeen years with W+K. She joined W+K Portland as an art director in September of 1996 and spent the next seven years in the position, working with brands including Nike, Diet Coke, Belvedere and Amazon. Flagg then spent the next nine years as a creative director with the agency, working with such clients as P&G, Facebook, Kraft, Levis, Starbucks, Sony and Old Spice, as well as continuing to work with Nike. She then spent ten months as creative director/art director for the Nike Foundation GirlEffect Project in Ethiopia, helping to launch Yegna (pronounced yen-ya), the country’s first teen girl brand, before leaving W+K to go freelance.

Leach joined TBWA/MAL just a few months after Flagg, in August of 2014, following four and a half years as creative director for Chance Studio, the branding and design studio she founded in 2010. Before founding Chance Studio she spent two years as a creative director with W+K New York. That followed nearly eleven years client-side as executive vice president, creative director for fashion and design company Kate Spade.

The news is the latest in a series of executive departures for TBWA\MAL. Last month chief strategy officer Rebecca Stambanis, executive creative director Jorge Calleja and executive director of integration Kaitlyn Wilkins all left after less than six months with the agency. Stambansis and Calleja had filled vacancies left by the February departures of Marc-Antoine Jarry and Eric Grunbaum while worldwide managing director Dave Dreyer and executive creative director Steve Turner both left the agency in April.
