Taco Bell Appoints New CMO

By Erik Oster

Taco Bell appointed Marisa Thalberg as its new chief marketing officer, replacing Chris Brandt, who resigned to pursue other opportunities, AdAge reports.

Thalberg arrived at Taco Bell in May as chief brand engagement officer after eight years as vice president, corporate digital and content marketing worldwide with The Estee Lauder Companies. Prior to that she served as group account director with Kaplan Thaler Group for two years. That followed stints as vice president, management director for Revlon, vice president, global advertising for Unilever Cosmetics International and senior vice president, marketing for Sure Fit. Back in the 90s, Thalberg served as an account executive with Saatchi & Saatchi for three years and an account supervisor with JWT for two.

It is unclear if the move will ultimately have any impact on Taco Bell’s relationship with its lead agency Deutsch, which also picked up digital duties in December of 2014.

“I’m confident that Marisa’s deep brand experience and unique background will allow us to continue our position as a brand people passionately trust and champion,” Taco Bell CEO Brian Niccol said in a statement, adding that Brandt was “instrumental to Taco Bell’s success.”
