Taco Bell Aims Directly at McD’s Again in New Deutsch Spot

By Patrick Coffee

Taco Bell has moved on from finding Americans named Ronald McDonald to following the smartphone “out with the old/our stuff is newer than your stuff” equation with this new spot from Deutsch.

It’s all set to the tune of “Old Macdonald” in case the references weren’t clear enough.

While your protagonist does look a bit young to have seen “Howard the Duck” in theaters, the 80s references keep piling up to hook that target demo: you may have missed the keytar, the coin-operated Galaga machine, the Miami Vice white-on-neon pink combo, and what looks a whole lot like an 8-track player on first viewing.

We spotted all those, but we’re still very disappointed at our own inability to identify every item on the toy shelf, because someone put in a lot of work there

We’re 90% sure the robot below the record player is Voltron, but for now his identity will remain an unsolved mystery.
