Slack Names IPG’s Mediahub as Media AOR

Mediahub’s new client is one that was presumably already part of the agency’s daily work life.

Workplace communication platform Slack has appointed Mediahub as its media agency of record, an assignment encompassing media buying and planning in the U.S. and EMEA. A spokesperson for Slack confirmed the appointment but declined to comment further. Mediahub deferred to the client for comment.

Slack Technologies spent an estimated $5 million on media in the U.S. from July of 2019 through June of 2020, but just $409,000 for all of 2020, according to data consultancy COMvergence.

Last year, production house Sandwich created a quarantine-themed ad for Slack, acting as a follow-up to its 2014 effort introducing the now-ubiquitous service.

The appointment is the latest in a series of new accounts for Mediahub over the past six months.

After a series of layoffs at Mediahub last spring amid client budget cuts, the agency bounced back with several new business wins in 2020’s final quarter. Deli meat and cheese brand Dietz & Watson appointed Mediahub as its media agency of record in September. Prepaid mobile provider TracFone sent its $238 million media buying and planning account to Mediahub the following month and the NBA passed media responsibilities to Mediahub in November, following a review that included finalist Horizon Media.

Mediahub also began the year with an extended reach into the Midwest following the completion transition of Minneapolis-based media agency CompassPoint becoming part of Mediahub.
