RPA has named its first ECD – David Smith according to AdAge. This is an internal bump up. Smith will be heading up creative on accounts such as American Honda Motors, La-Z-Boy, and Soyjoy. Larry Postaer (pictured left) partner and director of creative services, is in his 50th year of advertising and is looking to cut back his load at the agency.
“I expect him to get very involved in integration, more than I did,” Postaer said. “And he’ll work a lot of our campaigns with the Internet component uppermost in his mind.”
RPA stands for Rubin Postaer and Associates. Gerry Rubin (pictured right) is also a serious ad man. The sixty-seven year old wanted to be an an actor prior to advertising. He even studied at Northwesternâ€™s highly regarded drama program with classmates Ann-Margret and Paula Prentiss. When asked what the best business lesson he learned from his time in the biz, Gerry said:
“I am in this position not because I am the brightest, but because I care about people, and if nothing else, RPA is a confederation of people.”
According to AdAge’s Data Center, “RPA ranked fifth in revenue among U.S. independents, with 2006 revenue of $105.2 million, up 5.7% from 2005. Wieden, ranked No. 3, had worldwide revenue of $127.8 million in 2006, up 24.2% from 2005.”
