Rob Lowe Moves on From DirecTV in Hungry Man’s Latest for Fox NFL Sunday

By Erik Oster

Rob Lowe has moved on from his DirecTV days to star in a new campaign from Hungry Man for Fox NFL Sunday, following Grey replacing Lowe with NFL stars past and present in its latest cable-mocking efforts.

Lowe stars in a varied series of 15 and 30-second spots. In “Origin of the Fox NFL Theme” he extolls the virtues of the song, before explaining it was written by accountant Ed Vogel. “Hold on to your dreams, and your day job,” Lowe advises. In “Holograms,” he presses a button on his remote to release a hologram of Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who at 69 is the oldest in the league. Wondering what he’ll look like at that age, he’s satisfied to find his hologram looks much the same, with a small streak of gray hair (a jokey reference to the actor’s age-defying looks). Hungry Man seems to have run out of material for the remaining spots, which see the actor describing who would soar higher in “Jets vs. Eagles,” sleeping on set (because the game promotes itself, yawn) and talking with Fox robot mascot “Cleatus” before they begin shooting an ad.
