R/GA’s Hustle, Beats and Tracy Morgan Share ‘A Christmas Miracle’

Following his appearances hosting SNL and in recent Foot Locker ads, Tracy Morgan continues his comeback tour with a holiday ad for fashion headphones brand Beats, created by R/GA’s Hustle unit.

Morgan appears in a full-length online ad, presenting “A Christmas Miracle” which finds him receiving Beats as a present from his son. Clocking in at around two minutes, the overly long run time is a definite problem, as there’s a fair share of missed jokes and stretched scenes. It’s still nice to see Morgan back, however, and in the few moments when the spot clicks his charm is out in full force. He even manages to poke fun at his own difficult run of things lately, saying “Last year there was some conjecture of whether I’d been naughty or nice. This year I can assure you I’ve been nothing but nice. Because I’ve been in a God damn coma!” One of the big problems with the ad, though, is the ultimately unbelievability of Morgan wanting a pair of Beats so bad (although there is a bit of a save via a line about needing them to work out). Still, it’s nice to see the brand try something other than the star athlete/licensed song formula we’ve seen ad nauseum.
