R/GA New York Goes Through a Small Staff Reduction

By Patrick Coffee

The New York headquarters of R/GA had to let some employees go this week as so many agencies and other businesses unfortunately do at this time of year.

R/GA representatives declined to comment, and we do not have specific numbers regarding the employees who were let go. But our sources tell us the total was small and that the operational impact on the New York team was minimal.

We’re also told that the development was not related to recent statements from Bob Greenberg hinting that R/GA would be shifting its focus. In September, Greenberg told Campaign that the agency’s consulting arm Business Transformation would be his “biggest focus” moving forward as it looks to compete with companies like Deloitte and Accenture (and SapientRazorfish).

The reason for this small round of layoffs was, rather, a standard agency move made in order to better align individual teams to clients’ needs. Or so we hear.

In recent months, R/GA has moved deeper into the connected commerce field. It also named its first global chief talent officer last month, hiring Andre Chambers away from EA Games. On the accounts side, Toyota just named R/GA Sydney as its digital agency of record for Australia.
