Razorfish: Dead Soldiers

By Matt Van Hoven

We got a tip about some layoffs at Razorfish and were really surprised to learn that there were actually more people let go than we’d heard about. The agency wants to set the record straight. Note: these took place in mid-April.

“Razorfish laid off approximately 40 people in its Central region in mid-April, with positions eliminated across its Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, and Ft. Lauderdale offices. The job reductions amount to 3 percent of our national work force.

The decision to eliminate positions is not an easy one to make and has been undertaken with great care in reaction to the economic recession. Although our core client relationships are sound, we’ve experienced softness in demand for project-based work, which has resulted in fewer and smaller assignments. We care about our people deeply and are providing outplacement assistance to help affected employees find new homes.

The workforce reductions have no impact on client service. Our teams are fully staffed to meet clients’ needs. Especially as we become an agency of record for more of our clients, we believe we will emerge from the recession as a stronger organization.”
