Pretzel Ad Leaves Bad Taste in Mouth

By Michael Musco

People are in an outrage over this ad for Snack Factories’ Pretzel Crisps as the brand’s attempt at a play on words has come back to slap them in the face. Someone’s weight and appearance is obviously a very sensitive subject and should be considered carefully.

If you think even in the slightest that the concept might be in bad taste, you’re better off not doing it. Some people might say any publicity is good publicity, but not if you want people to eat your product. Could this be the most controversial pretzel ad ever? Maybe.

Snack Factory replied via Twitter, saying they are “using the word ‘thin’ in a creative way to describe our product,” and that people “seem to be interpreting it in their own way… we’re a thin pretzel cracker!” Sorry guys, but I don’t think you’re going to win this battle. Use your head and put together a better line that doesn’t insult millions of people. Maybe some folks are too sensitive but they’re the one who’s buying the product.
