Pereira & O’Dell Mocks Satellite TV for Charter

By Erik Oster

Pereira & O’Dell New York launched a new satellite-mocking campaign for Charter Communications starring SNL alum Kevin Nealon.

Nealon portrays Captain Telstar, the captain of the satellite TV headquarters which launched into space back in 1994, in a series of spots directed by Fred Savage. “Satellite TV Headquarters” sets the tone with Telstar and his crew manning the satellite headquarters, which have a classic sci-fi vibe. The implication, obviously, is that satellite TV is an outdated, unreliable technology. The spot hammers home the message when two friends can’t watch TV because of a very light rainstorm, while another ad, “On Hold,” attacks satellite providers for their pricing policies. While the goofy spots don’t really find the humor they’re looking for, they do manage to make satellite look pretty bad, even if they don’t exactly explain what makes Charter Communications so much better.
