O&M Celebrates Coke’s 125th in Mexico, Eases Traffic Woes in Bogota

By Kiran Aditham

Below, we have two very different campaigns from two different O&M offices that were launched recently, one specifically to help celebrate Coca-Cola’s 125th anniversary, which was Sunday, May 8 if you really want to be accurate. We can use a little sentimentality in our spots from time to time, which was what Ogilvy Mexico City seemed to be going for with this birthday-themed advert that first aired in Mexico on Coke’s actual anniversary day and has been running all over national TV ever since. Just for nostalgia’s sake, the team involved, which also includes director Fred Clapp and editorial company Crew Cuts, even tipped their hats to the brand’s classic “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” tune. Nice touch, but we’re still not even done wishing Veatrice a happy 100th.

Meanwhile in Colombia…

Ogilvy’s Bogota office isn’t necessarily blowing out the candles for Coke, but recently launched a nifty outdoor effort in its own right for the brand whereby those poor souls stuck in traffic in Colombia’s capitol were soon treated to a drive-in movie theater, complete with the sugary soft drink and other fixins. Hey, at least it wasn’t another damn flash mob to make rush hour that much more unbearable.
