NYF 2022 Advertising Awards Announces NYC Live Executive Jury

By Kyle O'Brien

New York Festivals International Advertising Awards (NYFA) has announced its 2022 executive jury of creative leaders to judge its entries. Those judges will resume live, in-person jury sessions for the first time in two years and—to celebrate that—NYFA has also released its latest creative, which gets a bit heated.

For the executive jury panel, NYF will bring together a wide range of creatives, including executives from the U.S. as well as New York-based international advertising creatives who have worked at agencies in Brazil, Australia, Germany, South Africa and Japan.

Fede Garcia, BCW’s global chief creative officer, will preside over the live judging sessions, bringing years of creative leadership and a world view to the panel. Garcia has already been involved with the work and promotions leading up to the judging, including conducting an interview with NYFA’s first creative ambassador, Dotun Bello.

“We are looking forward to resuming the lively discussions surrounding world class work with this exceptional panel of industry leaders,” said Scott Rose, executive director, New York Festivals Advertising Awards, in a statement. “These world-class creatives ensure that each entry will receive fair and thoughtful consideration and the attention it deserves.”

The executive jury will judge work from seven categories shortlisted by the online grand jury for two days in June at New York City’s Crosby Hotel. New categories for 2022 include purpose, pushing culture, small agency and start-up. Another new category group is called Hell’s Kitchen, which, like its NYC namesake neighborhood, will celebrate advertising around legalized vices, specifically, gambling, cannabis and alcohol work. The specialty category group will be sponsored by E-Z Wider rolling papers and judged by a group of creatives, presided over by former North American CEO of Havas Creative and current president and CMO of Republic Brands, Paul Marobella.

To celebrate the Hell’s Kitchen category, director Sheena Brady and production company WW7 have teamed with NYFA to produce a 60-second, character-driven spot that finds judges arguing over the merits of the gambling category.

The 2022 live executive jury includes: Fede Garcia, global chief creative officer, BCW USA; Samira Ansari, executive creative director, FCB New York USA; Patrick Bennet, executive creative director, Momentum USA; Chaucer Barnes, chief marketing officer, Translation Enterprises USA; Laura Stamm Boyd, svp, executive creative director, Saatchi & Saatchi; Tina Cervera, chief creative officer, Lippe Taylor; Corinna Falusi, chief creative officer, Mother USA; Chris Garbutt, chief creative officer, Vice Media Group; Walter Geer, chief experience design officer, VMLY&R USA; Rachel Donovan Geller, chief executive officer, Moons; Andre G.
