NO MORE and Y&R Debut New Anti-Domestic Violence PSA

By Patrick Coffee

You may be aware that the NFL has on ongoing perception problem related to domestic violence — and now the league’s advertising reflects its efforts to address that issue.

Alongside the many spots promoting Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Football and various consumer products, today brings a series of PSAs titled “NFL Anthem” and developed, pro bono, by Rachel Howald, CCO at WPP/Team BAC.

Take it away, Eli Manning:

The series includes a couple of variations after the jump.

Here’s the first :30:

Some details: the spots were directed by actress Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order fame along with fellow actors Tate Donovan and Blair Underwood and created to promote NO MORE, an anti-domestic violence advocacy org that also released a series of very similar PSAs last year. The difference: those starred actors instead of athletes.

While Howald is with WPP, the creative agency work on this campaign (no credits) is attributed to Y&R because, as a spokesperson tells us, she “worked with Y&R people and resources” on the project.

The spots will air during games and print ads will follow. As for whether this campaign will actually help the NFL deal with its problem, you’ll have to excuse us for leaning toward “skeptical.”
