New Red Lobster Campaign: Same as the Old One

By Kiran Aditham

After all the buildup surrounding the Red Lobster review and eventual win by Grey NY (we’re partly to blame for the unnecessary overhype), it looks like Rich Siegel was pretty much spot-on all along. In August, the Y&R/Chiat alum predicted how the next Red Lobster campaign would look once the dust settled in the pitch and the winning agency moved forth. On his blog today, Siegel sadly reports that it looks like it’s status quo when it comes to marketing for the  Darden-owned chain, which said back in September that it may “tweak” the approach to its advertising. So much for that.

Though we couldn’t dredge up a YouTube clip at the moment, you can check out a spot for the “Red Lobster Surf & Turf Event,” which Siegel claims is the brand’s most recent on this Facebook page. Savor the flavor, my friends.

Update: Grey tells us that this ad is NOT their doing (instead, probably the last remnants of The Richards Group’s’ era) and that the agency won’t have any work for the brand on-air until next summer.
