MDC Partners-owned Mono announced today the promotion of Julie Vessel as chief talent officer. Vessel, a longtime veteran of the Minneapolis-based agency, first joined when it was only in its infancy as a 15-person shop.

Vessel served as a group account director for eight years before recently taking up certain recruitment and development duties. As chief talent officer, she will have a broader leadership role in retaining and recruiting talent and one of her initial tasks will be to develop agency-wide training and development efforts.

“Our people have always been our biggest asset,” Mono founder and managing partner Jim Scott said in a statement. “People come to Mono with big ambitions and this promotion is insurance to make sure we do everything we can to bring out the best in them.”

Scott added, “We knew it was imperative to have this role and Julie was the obvious one to do it. Her passion for helping our people grow and thrive, as well as recognizing and bringing in top talent, is invaluable.”

After serving as group account director, Mono said Vessel expressed her desire to have a larger role in fostering talent at the agency, becoming a certified career coach to do so. Most recently Vessel helped recruit Vanessa Fortier, a veteran of McCann and The Martin Agency, as Mono’s first executive creative director.

Vessel also recently helped launch Mono Clubs, an open-enrollment club program that unites employees on common interests and activities.

“I’m thrilled to step into this strategic role,” Vessel added in a statement. “Mono has amazing talent and a positive and engaged culture. That said, I’m on a mission to make Mono as famous for their human-focused culture and empowering-talent experience as they are for their innovative work.”
