Monday Ad Ripoff Inclusion: Tipster Takes Torch Spot to Task

By Kiran Aditham

It’s been well over a month since our last ad ripoff entry (we’re really trying to space these kinds of posts out) so let’s start off the work week by dusting this section off and turning the spotlight on the new AT&T “Responsibilities” ad promoting the Blackberry Torch 4G. While the above spot has garnered a cult following of sorts in just a week’s time thanks in part to the “Huh?” guy (it’s at 820,000+ views and counting), one spy brings up the eerie similarities between this “Responsibilities” clip and a FedEx spot from five years ago that bears the same name. The 2006 version of “Responsibilities” was posted on the YouTube channel of Swedish shop, Akestam Holst.

As you can see, the two spots are fairly comparable, but as our spy notes, the whole situation seems all the more amusing and poetic when put into the context of another FedEx clip below. Well, to be fair, at least AT&T updated the concept for our smartphone-abusing, social media-addicted times. There’s something to be said for that, no?
