Mini-Mexican Wrestler Shills for Canadian Mobile Firm

By Kiran Aditham

Who knows, maybe Jack Black’s Oscar-worthy turn in Nacho Libre did have an impact on ECD Lance Martin and his team at Taxi 2. How else could one explain the agency’s decision to pair up an animated, mini-Mexican wrestler with its client, a Canadian mobile phone company? Whatever the case, with the help of Bent Image Lab and director Robert Shaw, Taxi 2 brings the story of four-inch, CG-animated pitchman “El Tabador” to life in a new campaign for Koodo Mobile.

Shaw, who it turns out is a fan of Mexican wrestling (or “Lucha Libre”), says in a statement, “When I first saw the script, I thought, ‘I have to do this job!,” adding that…”the whole project was a blast, but I have to say character development was my favorite part.” The campaign promotes Koodo’s no fixed-term contract “Tab” feature, hence the name “El Tabador.” A second spot in the campaign, “Compact”, is after the jump.
