Melbourne Creative Duo Uses Masks, Domain Buys to Land Agency Gigs

By Kiran Aditham

Continuing in our series of young creatives and their ploys to land solid jobs at agencies, we bring you this handiwork from Melbourne, Australia duo Andrew Grinter and Lee Spencer-Michaelsen, who decided to hatch a plan called “Creative Ransom.” As you can see above, there was no gimmicky marriage proposal; instead, the pair decided to purchase the domain names of leading ECDs in the metropolis Down Under and leave a digital ransom note that demanded a meeting or, “your site will get it.” In addition to the online threats, Grinter and Spencer-Michaelsen donned balaclavas and stormed agencies in Melbourne, which is also depicted in the brief clip.

From what Grinter tells us, this effort was “all real, the sites are still up and running and the redirects are still all functional.” Well, despite what looks like digital extortion as well as their agency invasions, the duo has actually landed jobs at DTDigital, which is part of Ogilvy Melbourne.
