McCann New York recently appointed Chris Mitton as executive creative director, responsible for leading creative on the agency’s Verizon account along with fellow executive creative director Caprice Yu, who joined the agency in May.

McCann hired Mitton over the summer before Verizon consolidated its wireless business without a review in October.

He joined the agency following a two-year period as a freelance creative director and copywriter during which he worked with shops including Team Detroit, The Brooklyn Brothers, GS&P, AKQA and Media Arts Lab.

Prior to that, he served as a creative director for W+K Portland for nearly three years, working with brands including Target, TurboTax and Sony.

Mitton began his advertising career as an art director with Ogilvy & Mather London in December of 1987, working with clients including Guinness, Shell and Kodak. Roughly five years later he left for Ogilvy & Mather’s New York office, where he served as a creative director and copywriter for over 17 years, becoming a group creative director in 2005. While with Ogilvy & Mather New York he was instrumental in developing the “My Life, My Card” campaign for American Express.
