McCann, JWT Vet Joins Dagger as Creative Director

Independent Atlanta agency Dagger has welcomed Matt Genné as creative director.

In the role, Genné will oversee creative content for the agency while reporting to Dagger CEO Mike Popowski.

“As we continue to grow and lead our clients forward, Matt’s talent and experience will strengthen Dagger’s capabilities and solidify the creative team,” Popowski said in a statement. “Matt is an award-winning, obsessively focused thinker whose contributions to our modern culture are equally important to us.”

Genné arrives at Dagger following two years with Focus Brands, where he launched and led the content team, working with in-house clients including Cinnabon, Carvel, Moe’s Southwest Grill, McAlister’s, Schlotzsky’s and Focus Brands Global Channels.

Prior to joining Focus Brands he spent nearly six years at JWT Atlanta as an associate creative director and copywriter, working with brands such as the U.S. Marines, FEMA and Scana Energy, as well as helping relaunch the Transamerica brand. Earlier in his career, he spent three years as a copywriter with McCann New York, working with brands including Gillette, Nikon, Mobil 1, Kohl’s, Dentyne Ice and Uni-ball.
