Leo Burnett Global CCO to Chair Publicis Communications

By Patrick Coffee

Just over a week after Arthur Sadoun informally introduced Publicis Communications to staffers in a note that told us nothing, the group has a leader: Leo Burnett’s global CCO Mark Tutssel.

A group of “global agency leaders” chose Chicago-based Tutssel, who’s had the global creative title since 2006, after a “two-day meeting” in New York held to determine who will lead which parts of the new entity. Then they sent Campaign a press release about it.

Moving forward, Tutssel will “chair Publicis Communications’ new creative board” along with the heads of creative at Leo, BBH, Publicis, Saatchi & Saatchi and MSLGroup.

Beyond the board, Publicis also created a “global executive committee” to handle all the other, more boring stuff. So far its members include:

  • Robert Senior, worldwide CEO Saatchi & Saatchi
  • Justin Billingsley, worldwide COO Saatchi & Saatchi
  • Neil Munn, group CEO BBH
  • Tom Bernardin, global CEO Leo Burnett
  • Rich Stoddart, North American CEO Leo Burnett
  • Andrew Bruce, CEO Publicis North America
  • Loris Nold, CEO of Asia Pacific, Africa, Israel & Turkey at Publicis
  • Guillaume Herbette, CEO of MSLGroup
  • Jean-François Valent, CEO of production company Prodigious

And there’s more. Here are the newly-created executive positions within Publicis Communications:

  • Chief talent officer Sophie Martin-Chantepie (also CTO at MSLGroup)
  • Chief transformation officer Charlotte Duthoo (currently EVP of talent/business transformation at Publicis Worldwide)
  • Global CFO Patrick Dumouchel (currently CFO at Leo Burnett in Chicago)
  • North American CFO Bill Cochrane (currently worldwide CFO at Saatchi & Saatchi)

What do all these changes mean? Our guess is “very little,” though it would certainly seem as if Publicis is doubling down on both its Paris-based leadership team and Leo Burnett Chicago.
