Lakers Games About to Get Tipsier

By Kiran Aditham

After 18 years of basically practicing teetotalism by banning courtside liquor ads, the NBA sure has loosened up since it removed the ban in January. Now that the booze-flooded gates are open, news comes that 1800 Tequila, whose bottle is shaped like some sort of Aztec relic, is now an official sponsor of 2009 world champion Los Angeles Lakers (is Jack Nicholson included in the deal?).

This marks the first spirits branding for the Lakers, whose logo will be featured in various 1800 advertising efforts and sponsorships (courtesy of parent company Proximo) with a “responsible drinking” message attached, of course. Guess ‘showtime’ could take on a slightly different meaning this year at the Staples Center.
