Tongal*, the “crowdsourced studio” that “connects businesses in need of creative work with an always-on network of writers, directors, and production companies who deliver it,” hired Vaughan Emsley to fill the newly-created position of head of strategy and client development.

Emsley joins Tongal from Saatchi & Saatchi, where he most recently served as both global CEO on the P&G business and strategic advisor to global chairman Kevin Roberts, who announced his resignation last week following a Business Insider interview in which he made controversial comments about gender diversity.

“Brands today need a new kind of partner to develop creative that is authentic, targeted and efficiently produced for every platform, from TV commercials to social and original content. Vaughan, a top agency and marketing expert, has identified Tongal as the creative model for the future, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the leadership team,” Tongal co-founder and CEO Rob Salvatore said in a statement.

vaughanA longtime veteran of Saatchi & Saatchi, Emsley originally joined the agency as regional account director for Pampers Europe and the Middle East in 1991 and later became regional director for P&G in the Asia/Pacific region. In 2000, he was named global equity director for Iams and Eukanuba, and became global brand agency leader for Pampers two years after that. After three years in that role, he was named executive vice president and head of the global P&G account, spending eight years in that role before being named global head of planning and transformation in October of 2013.

“Tongal is the new model for creating content, and is a major challenge to the existing agency model, which isn’t giving brands what they need to communicate with today’s audiences across a growing range of media environments.” said Emsley. “Combining Tongal’s huge creative network with sharp strategic direction and true human insight provides a winning alternative for marketers looking for relevance and success. Before joining Tongal, I conferred with many client-side marketers, and everyone’s advice was the same – they said, ‘Do it, this is what we need.'”
