Johannes Leonardo Parts Ways With Volkswagen Creative Lead Jimm Lasser After Less Than 9 Months

Johannes Leonardo has parted ways with Jimm Lasser, who was an executive creative director and creative lead on Volkswagen for the agency.

“Jimm is extremely talented and we appreciate the contribution he has made to JL and VW,” a representative for the agency wrote in a statement. “We wish him nothing but the best in his next endeavor.”

Lasser joined the agency just last July as Volkswagen creative lead after Volkswagen named Johannes Leonardo as lead U.S. brand agency in February of 2019. The agency’s work on Volkswagen was among the highlights in a strong year capped by Adweek naming Johannes Leonardo as Breakthrough Agency of the Year.

Before joining Johannes Leonardo, Lasser spent more than 12 years at W+K, most recently as creative director for W+K New York. In that role, he led creative for Southern Comfort, Sprite, Vitaminwater and Jordan Brand, including on the latter brand’s Cannes Lions Grand Prix-winning D “RE2PECT” campaign paying homage to Derek Jeter.

He initially joined W+K’s Portland office in 2007 as an art director and spent over five years at W+K Portland working on brands including Chrysler, Heineken, Levi’s, Nike and Old Spice.

It isn’t immediately clear what Lasser’s next move will be after parting ways with Johannes Leonardo. AgencySpy reached out for comment from Lasser on LinkedIn but has yet to receive a response. He currently lists his status as “Looking for what’s next.”
