Joan Names Former 180 Amsterdam ASICS Leads as Co-Executive Creative Directors

Joan Creative hired Dan Treichel and Dave Canning as its first co-executive creative directors. They will be based out of the agency’s New York headquarters and report directly to co-founder/CCO Jaime Robinson.

“We’re over the moon that Dave and Dan have joined us. Their ability to push boundaries combined with a true sense of empathy is the exact brand of creativity we need as our creative department and agency continues to grow and flourish,” Robinson said in a statement. “Playful, inventive and displaying an enormous amount of heart, Dave and Dan have been behind some of our favorite campaigns both in the US and Europe. Plus, they happen to be really good people. They will be a great influence on our work.”

Treichel and Canning joins Joan Creative from 180 Amsterdam, where they served as executive creative directors and formerly led the ASICS account and also worked with clients including DHL, PlayStation, Replay Jeans and United Colors of Benetton. Last November the agency named new leads on ASICS, promoting Hannah Smit and Tony Bartolucci to roles as creative directors, before the account went into review the next month.

ASICS has yet to comment on the news, but several parties told us that the agency will not be defending its business.

Before joining 180 Amsterdam, Treichel and Canning both served as creative directors with Barton F. Graf, where they worked on the “Climate Name Change” campaign for 350 Action. Prior to Barton F. Graf, Treichel spent three years as an associate creative director with Y&R and then a year as a senior art director with Droga5 while he was also an instructor at Miami Ad School. Canning served as a copywriter with Y&R and W+K, following a brief stint as a freelance art director.

“We couldn’t be happier to be joining Joan. Jaime and Lisa are two of the smartest and most talented people in this business and we can’t wait to ride their long, illustrious coat tails to many successes,” Canning said in a statement.

“It’s absolutely refreshing to work for a female owned and founded agency,” added Treichel.” “It’s rare to see this much ambition, enthusiasm and creativity in one place. After one Skype with Jaime and Lisa we looked at each other and said, ‘We really, really hope we get this job.'”
