Jack Rooney Says Goodbye to Ogilvy After 20 Years

By Patrick Coffee

Yesterday we noted that Jack Rooney, who spent more than a decade with the Ogilvy organization and eventually served as chairman and CEO of its Chicago office, would be leaving.

The memo from U.S. CEO Lou Aversano offered effusive praise but didn’t quite clarify the details of his departure or his future plans.

Today we have a bit more on that front: Rooney confirmed that he left the agency after serving more than 20 years over three different stints to take on a new job.

“As an addendum to the note from Lou, I can confirm that I have accepted a senior marketing position at Fiserv in Milwaukee,” he wrote.

Fiserv, as its name implies, is a tech company that serves the financial industry. Ogilvy has created international campaigns for the brand in the past.

We also viewed a copy of the note that Rooney sent to staff in Chicago. In the note, he described the decision to leave Ogilvy as “poignant, difficult, bittersweet and so much more,” adding that he’d been “blessed to work with innumerable Giants” at the agency over the years.

Rooney begins his new role later this summer.
