It Takes Two to Tango…in Compton

By Michael Musco

You won’t catch many of these rolling down our streets, but throughout Europe and the UK, it’s a different story. It’s sort of similar to us and Honda or Toyota. For 35 years, the VW Polo has been known for and advertised its reliability, safety and toughness. Now, DDB London looks to add a little rhythm and sensuality to the equation.

This spot, dubbed “Last Tango in Compton” and directed by award-winning director Jonathan Glazer (of Guinness “Surfer”, Sony “Paint,” etc.), features the world’s top two tango dancers–Argentinean Tango World Champion Gasper Godoy, and partner, Manuella Rossi. The pair does what they do best to the tune of Roc C’s  hip-hop ditty, “Don’t Stop,” and though strange on paper at first, the end result is an extraordinary dance sequence that symbolizes the mixture of brawn and beauty.
