Here Are Your Big EVB Changes: New ECD, New Managing Director

By Patrick Coffee

About a week ago we told you that big changes were coming to Oakland/Boulder agency EVB or Evolution Bureau.

The first stage in those changes was the departure of partner/ECD Steve Babcock and VP/GCD Rich Ford. The second stage, announced today, is the promotion of CD Troy Burrows to ECD and account director Steve Barry to the newly created general manager role in Boulder.

Barry joined EVB as account director last May after working in accounts at Wieden+Kennedy, GS&P, CP+B and other shops; he was quickly promoted to GAD and managed the agency’s biggest accounts including SunChips and Kraft.

barry evbBurrows (top) arrived at the Boulder office one month before Barry, and the release tells us that “his work has spanned both the Boulder and Oakland offices” and credits him with several recent account wins include the aforementioned Sun Chips as well as Jameson, Ebates and Hot Wheels. In his 18 months at EVB, he has “touched every piece of agency business.”

The new ECD, who now officially replaces the departed Babcock, worked as a senior copywriter at CP+B’s Miami office before joining EVB. Previous roles include nearly four years at FCB, where Burrows worked on KFC, Motorola, and other accounts as well as a period during which he wrote for Seattle’s Creature.

When first commenting on the changes last week, founder/CEO Daniel Stein alluded to a new structure at his agency. The press release clarifies: where EVB Boulder was once simply a creative wing of the shop’s Oakland headquarters, the location now includes “strategists, an account group with more than a half-dozen members and a large creative team” thanks to new business wins and growth among existing clients.
