Groupon Announces New Delivery System, Tells Amazon Drones to Suck it

By Erik Oster

Groupon has extended the proverbial middle finger at Amazon with a new video mocking the company’s planned droid delivery service. In the video, Groupon purports to have a new delivery system of their own that looks to the past for inspiration: the catapult.

As Groupon SVP of innovations Everett Weiss puts it, “The technology [is] proven, it’s tested. We’re talking about principles of package delivery that have been around since the time of King Arthur. Look, that guy knew something about keeping precious cargo safe.”

The concept is a clever dig at Amazon and, over the course of the 1:12 video, Groupon also manages to suggest that Amazon’s droids might spy on you in the shower. So the choice is yours: creepy, baby-waking droid perverts or the time-proven tradition of delivery via catapult. Because “What Groupon is about is great deals, great service, and medieval catapults.” Your move Amazon.
