Grenadier Exchanges Gift Card for Wings with Coinstar

Boulder agency Grenadier launched a digital campaign promoting Coinstar Exchange, which allows consumers to exchange unwanted gift cards for cash.

At the center of the campaign are┬áthree 30-second online spots for the campaign, featuring a man less than enthused with his gift card to a bath and bedroom store. “These wings used to be a gift card to a bath and bedroom store” says the voiceover at the beginning of the spot, “but you didn’t want anything at the bath and bedroom store, you wanted cash for apocalyptic atomic wings and wanted it right now.” While the ad’s example of when the service may come in handy is more than a little exaggerated, it hits close enough to home that interested viewers may have their interest piqued. And of course January is the perfect time to launch such an effort, as consumers are likely to have an unwanted gift card or two in their wallets after the holidays. The spot ends by directing viewers to the Coinstar website, where they can find a Coinstar Exchange location nearby. Other spots show a man rocking out with a guitar that “was once a gift card to a big steakhouse chain” and a woman who traded her gift card to a hobby store for a gym membership.
