Former CP+B ECD Joins Indie Agency Nobox as Chief Creative Officer

Nobox, an independent digital and social content agency based in Miami, hired Marcus Kawamura as chief creative officer and partner, effective immediately.

Kawamura most recently was an executive creative director at Crispin Porter + Bogusky’s Miami office before it closed in April 2018. Kawamura, who before moving to Miami was a global creative director at CP+B’s Boulder, Colo., headquarters, has been freelancing ever since. Before CP+B, he was an associate creative director for AlmapBBDO in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“Nobox is a special place with an innovative process of working that is nimble and fast,” Kawamura said in a statement. “The dynamic of the industry has dramatically changed and now it’s all about response time while maintaining a strong level of creativity. For that, we could not be better positioned. I’m thrilled to be part of this project and look forward to contributing to its continued success.”

As CCO, Kawamura will take over creative leadership of the agency from founder Jayson Fittipaldi, who has been overseeing it since Nobox’s 2001 inception. Fittipaldi now moves into the role of chief innovation officer to “help shape” the future of the agency and its clients “through the implementation of new creative technologies,” according to Nobox.

“I’m really excited about this new partnership, and having Marcus to collaborate with, we balance each other out well,” said Fittipaldi. “On one end he will bring a whole new creative approach to the agency backed by many years of experience delivering world class work, and on the other, I will have the opportunity to grow an area of the business critical to staying relevant.”

Kawamura will also help Nobox—headquartered in Miami with roots in Latin America and Jamaica—continue to expand its footprint and offerings in the U.S. Those expansion efforts began about two years ago when the agency started taking on more work for several major American brands including Netflix, Marriott and PlayStation.

“Bringing on Marcus and evolving Jayson’s role symbolizes a new heightened level of commitment and engagement in the U.S. market,” said Diego Fernandez, Nobox partner and general manager. “It also underscores our commitment to keep fine-tuning and improving our content over platforms offering. With Marcus’s creative support and Jayson’s stronger focus on product and innovation, we will continue to grow and expand.”
